Even when you’re doing it for pay, writing can feel like putting messages into bottles and flinging them out into the surf. An awful lot of stuff simply doesn’t draw much of a reaction, or gets only a small flurry of responses before sinking out of sight.
A friend just alerted me to the fact that a piece about J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis that I sold to Salon just over four years ago is now a discussion item on Fark. Interesting to see one of my old bottles bob back to the surface.
