I got your Oscars right here

Back in the 1980s, the hilarious British puppet show Spitting Image tried to establish a beachhead in the colonies. It didn’t pan out, but it did leave behind this glorious trashing of the Academy Awards. The victims include Sylvester Stallone, Tom Cruise, Sigourney Weaver, Laurence Olivier, and above all, Leonard Nimoy.

462 books in 365 days

This item about a woman who read 462 books last year reminds me, perhaps unfairly, of the old Woody Allen routine: “I took a speed reading course and it worked great. I just read War and Peace in 20 minutes. It’s about Russia.”

I read fairly quickly myself but as a family man I find the problem isn’t the speed with which I read, but the speed with which I will be interrupted as soon as I open a book.
